Brian Addis Chair – New Hope School
Brian was an active Member of the Woodworking Association of Pretoria and was Secretary for a number of years. He was also a leading member of the Cabinet Makers Group and in recent years was its leader. A favourite meeting place of the Cabinet Makers was in Brian’s well-equipped workshop.
Brian cared for people, a good example of which is the project that the Association has adopted to supply the New Hope School with a special chair for the younger scholars. Brian improved the design of the sample chair and prepared an excellent plan (also on display) with a flow diagram detailing the steps in typical engineering fashion. He then went on to make, in record time, a trial chair. Brian passed away on 20 June 2011. A plaque in memory of Brian has been placed on each chair.
